Odd numbers for Marriages in FreeBMD!

The pages that you see on the 1837 site are the same ones I use as a transcriber for FreeBMD. So for example, if I am keying Adams marriages from 1845 and Mr Adams married a Miss Wood, it might be a few months before our syndicate gets to the 'W' pages for that year.

And there was I, thinking that the transcribers looked at an actual marriage certificate with two names on it!! Silly me! I'll just keep checking! Mary, Devon

Sometimes the page numbers are illegible or are mis-transcribed and as a result will not show up in the appropriate place. Sue

It is not "possible" that the odd number is due to untranscribed persons, it is absolutely certain that this is the cause ! However, there is the odd page where there is an even or odd number because the same person has been transcribed twice with slight variations and so appears twice rather than once (verified) i.e. in bold type.

The freebmd is not yet complete, so the page only shows those that have been transcribed. It is therefore, possible, to see one partner of a marriage but not the other, as that page has not been transcribed yet.

free bmd is not as yet FULLY transcribed, so it is possible the other person people are missing for that reason.

I've several times come across this phenomenon and would dearly love an explanation! When looking up to find a marriage on FreeBMD and I click on the number to find the possible spouses, there are three or five people named. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always assumed there are TWO people in a marriage, so there should always be an equal number of people mentioned. What's going on? Mary, Devon
