I have a copy of a Bishop Transcript for a Marriage Cert of my 4x Gt Grandad 1817 Cheltenham and it doesnt give the father's name Where do I find his name ? Would it be from a Parish Register, and would it have the fathers name on that ? Joan

Hi, The parish register would almost certainly have exactly what you already have. The BTs are transcripts of the parish records. There were no certificates until 1837, just entries in Parish registers. The names of fathers didn't appear until registration began. If he was "of the parish" you could search them for his baptism.
