Carol I see what you mean. I thought she might have taken a few years off as she remarried a younger man. I know she could not write as on both her marriage certificate and son's birth certificate there is an X mark where the signature would be. I found out the church is St Marys and it is or was next to the Archbishops Palace near Lambeth bridge. China Walk was just along the road. I really wanted her first husbands age to confirm he died 1872 then I could order death certificate. Shirley

In 1881 her age was 36 but in 1891 it was 44. It is possible that both are correct, depending on when her birthday is and when the census was taken. I dont have the census dates to hand, but if her birthday was before the 1881 and after the 1891, then the ages would tally. Even so, it is only 2 years difference, and back then a lot of people were unsure of their ages, also the transcriber could have misread the age, as some were very difficult to read.

Jill I have received Mary Ann's wedding certificate to her first husband John Abbott which gives her fathers name as Wlliam Mitchell a brewers servant. I have yet to figure out her correct age yet as in 1881 it was 36 but in 1891 it was 44. I am quite certain she came from Southwark. But there are still about 3 or 4 that could be her. I was hoping that someone had a London 1871 census so that I could find her on that. Thanks for keeping in touch. Shirley

Shirley glad you have now recieved Mary Ann's marriage cert It is a shame that they have only put full age down, but still you should have both their father's names and ocupations. (another couple of brick walls to knock down). I'm glad it was the right ref no. I gave you as I would have felt awful if it was wrong. Good luck. Jill

Thanks Carole I went to look up South Street on Old London Street site and it said they are doing maintenance on it. At least I got fathers names. Shirley

Full age would mean age 21 or over. Not very helpful is it? I have a few of those. At the time of the marriage, there was probably only one parish church, and was usually called just that (The Parish Church) So yours is possibly St Marys Parish Church, Lambeth The top of the certificate should give you the registration district and any sub district.

Just received long awaited marriage certificate of John ABBOTT and Mary Ann MITCHELL and was hoping to get their ages but has come back both of full age. Also it seems both living South Steet Lambeth which I cannot find either. They were married parish of St Mary but no name for parish church. Any Tips Shirley
