Good American Sites?

Have managed to come forwards instead of going backwards and found some rellies who emigrated to America in 1907. We know there were children and also know that these children have tried to make contact with an elderly relative but (for reasons I won't go into here) we don't have an address for them. Is there a popular site Americans use to trace family? Hope this makes sense, I'm not properly awake yet!

Thanks Crista but we only know of a Horace Percival Brownsey who was born c1902 and his sister Gladys May Brownsey who was born c1906. Don't know yet who Gladys married. Both children born in England. They arrived at Ellis Island in 1907 with their parents Fred and Rosina on the St Louis from Southampton - travelling to Gardner Illinois, Lundy County. We think it was one of the brothers or sisters children who visited Bristol, England a few years back and tried to contact an aunt of ours. So really trying to find children but as yet names unknown.

Crista, just had a last check on these boards before I went out and saw your info. FANTASTIC. Hubby says you're a "little love" and to send you a kiss! (I'm not too sure about that!!!) Got to go or will miss the plane - neighbours won't be too pleased. Trish

Trish, You can search the Social Security Death records here and even order a certificate. I have no idea what info. is on the certs though. http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb(.)com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi Finding Gladys could be tricky because of the name change. If you order her birth certificate and get her date of birth you could use that to help search. I found a death record for a Fred Brownsey in California but his d.o.b. was in 1881. According to the 1901 and 1881 censuses he was born about 1879/80. The Brownseys are listed as Brownry on the 1901 census. Crista

Does anyone know how to search for marriages in US and how to apply for certificates? Particularly interested in San Francisco area of California. Cathy

Is it possible to search for births in USA? My pa-in-law's oldest brother is supposed to have been born there, probably 1900 - 1908, but no idea what state. The parents owned a tannery. His name would have been John Walsh, parents Michael and Annie (formerly Lally) Walsh. The IGI doesn't have any of them.

Glad there's some help for American rellies - I've several and kept coming up against brick walls on every site I tried. I know my great uncle emigrated in the 1930's along with his sister and the family has grown ever since so I've got a bit of info but not as much as I'd like. Mary Brooke
