Helen Thats a good possibility that it is Georges dad as his second name was William. I will get one of the eleven children's birth certificates first, to get Mary's maiden name then Georges Marriage certificate that should give me his fathers name thanks Valerie

Valerie On FreeBMD there's a William Bannell married in Kings Lynn Mar 1839. Wonder if this is George's Dad? There are a few children listed born 1845-1853, no George but could be his siblings, it's about the right time.

I have lost a message, there was one from Helen who had put in some index codes for me, went to write them out after last message and now it's gone. Are you there Helen.

Valerie Report 7 Nov 2003 11:46

Well done Linda you beat me to it, I was going through changing the first letter of their name as that was the only other thing I had not tried. Great now I can get that printed up, and I hope it has given you all a buzz to get there in the end, it is such a good feeling. And all this in one morning. I can't say it enough times thank you all and I hope I can return the help. Valerie

Valerie Report 7 Nov 2003 11:07

Hi Anna. That is the same family thank you very much, that gives me a bit more to work on. The visitor could well be Mary's sister, I will keep that in mind as I find out more on them. You all have been a great, thanks for all your help. Valerie

Hi Linda. With all the dates going round in my head, and being so pleased that at least some of the family had turned up on one census, it did not click she would not have been on the 1891 as she was born in 1893, so Rose must have been another sister, and none of this family I have seem to be on the 1901. I am going to give it a rest now and try later. Regards Valerie

Hi everyone, Jill Hunt on the other board has just found them on the 1891 census. George Bannell 42 bricklayer born Kings lynn Norfolk Mary 37 wife Mary 14 George 15 mineral water labourer Lucy 12 Walter 10 Rose 6 Lily 4 Violet 3 Daisy 8months children all born London 23 Magdalen rd Islington It looks as though my nan who we called May and what is on the marriage certificate, was called Rose by the family. She was born in Islington and had sisters called Lily and Violet, but I did not know their age. Now I can go back and check the 1901. What a good feeling it is when someone just gives you that bit of information needed to untangle things. Valerie

Hi Helen and Suzanne. Thanks for looking Helen, at times a new pair of eye's might have just seen what I missed. I have tried different spellings of the name Bannell, just one N or one L, with fingers crossed but no luck. What I will do is try and find and send for her birth certificate that will give me some more information, and see if they turn up then. Thanks for trying Valerie

Helen

Helen Report 7 Nov 2003 09:49

I've tried variations of Bannell, Panell, Dannell, Bonnell, Donnell etc. Still no joy.

Hi Ruth I don't know when he was married, that is the only information I have, from my grandmothers marriage certificate. She was one of a large family ten or more children but I don's know if she was the first, last or in the middle. Valerie

Valerie I had the same problem, knew for sure that my gt grandfathers family were in Nottingham in 1901, but could I find them. They had a double surname and I tried the 'Mallard' rather than the 'Cronk' still no luck. So I started trying different first letters for Mallard. I finally found them under Hallard!!! Is it possible the name has been transposed?

Helen Report 7 Nov 2003 09:38

So you know your message is not being ignored - I've spent nearly an hour looking but can't come up with any possibilites. Where was George born and what age would he have been in 1901?

Valerie Report 7 Nov 2003 05:10

I have a George William Harper Bannel (Brick cutter) and his daughter May Bannell born 1893, so would be 7 at the time of the census. Living in the Tottenham, Middlesex area I think. But I can't for the life of me find them, I have posted a request on the other board in hope's he is on the 1891 census. But can anyone tell me were else I could look Please. Thanks Valerie
