Thanks for looking both of you. I wonder if there are any records of 'taxi' drivers for the period? I think Greenford Road was quite posh then so I presumed George would have been working for one of the large houses as Henry appears to have been doing a few years later...maybe 'fly-driving' was a profitable business!

I think a fly-driver was probably more like a "taxi" driver, so he probably wouldn't be living in a big house then. Had a quick look for you and not found anything yet. Jan

I cannot find the following people on the 1881 census and would be grateful of any assistance (ages as at 1881): George Middleton - Fly-driver (carriage driver) - age and place of birth unknown, Jane Middleton (nee Willis) - Born Hertfordshire - aged around 50, Henry Francis Middleton - Born Harrow (Roxeth) - aged around 10. I have found a possible marriage for Jane and George at St Leonard's Church in Shoreditch so George is possibly from this area. At the time of Henry's birth they were living in Greenford Road, Harrow (Roxeth) and presumably George was working at one of the large houses in the area but I don't know which one. By 1896 Henry was living at Clifton Croft, York where he was a groom. George was dead by this time. I do not know when Henry moved to York, they weren't living at Clifton Croft in 1881 as I have checked this. Many thanks. Helen
