Hi,

my dad was posted aboard HMS Excellent (T47) in 1941. He told us a few stories and was under the command of Combined Operations. The ship is listed in his official record.

I know of the air raid on March 10/11 where a few crew were killed.

When was it sunk? How? Any details would be appreciated

Hiya My Grandfather was in the Navy in that year and quite possibly could of been on one of those ships. Can you have a look for a Francis (Frank) Clarke for me. His middle name was William. Cheers

HMS Viviana and HMT Withernsea were converted trawlers - they survived the war. HMS Excellent was a cable laying ship which was sunk in 1941. I have noticed some of the surnames are on GC although I haven't yet come across the particular individuals. If you know that someone in your family was on one of these I'll gladly look to see if they were a contributor and in the meantime will work through it and add a further message on this thread listing all the names. There is one in particular (signed on dry land) from Ethel MAIR, MA, Portknockie dated 26 April 1940. There are about 30 autographs in total. Sue
