Facts from the 1901 Scottish Census ....... Did you know: The male population in Scotland was 2,173,755 of whom 1,423,636 or 65.492% were bachelors. There were 1026 males and nine females on board Royal Navy ships, 914 of the males were unmarried. 13,194 people lived in asylums as lunatics or imbeciles. There were 268,362 males and 264,671 females between the ages of 0-5 years old. There were four widowers and ten widows under the age of 20. 4023 people spent the night in barns, sheds, tents or caravans. There were 369,185 spinsters. The highest rate being in Broughty Ferry and the lowest rate being in Motherwell. There were 14 males between 15-65 years old from Africa and 290 from America in Scotland. Of the 3933 soldiers in barracks, 1422 were under the age of 20 and six were between the age of 55-65. There were 7940 patients in Scottish hospitals. The highest percentage of bachelors, 54,710 were in Argyll. Thought that you all just had to know these facts :o)) Regards Margaret How's that Margaret? Northeners unite! John :o)))
