Thanks Maureen, but as my John was 17 in the 1881 census and working as a tea grocers shopman i think he must have been a different Thomas John White, and if you only found that out of 2000 entries my search has just gone from hands full to nearly impossible!!!! Why oh why cant just one of my lot make it easy for me and be where they should, with a name that is easy to trace, etc, LOL!!!!! Thanks anyway for your help Yvette

hi just looked at all thomas j white only found one for helston THOMAS JOHN WHITE MARCH QTR 1876 5C 209 dont know if this is your man may be too old but i looked at over 2000 entries

searched 1863 - 1865 cornwall and only found this Births Mar 1864 WHITE Thomas Liskeard 5c 66
