If you have....I was just wondering if you could do a look up for me. I want a household with a Laura Mansfield as mother and Elizabeth Mansfield as daughter.

Laura, do you know what area and years of birth?

CelticShiv

CelticShiv Report 31 Oct 2003 13:02

no sorry. Possibly the london area. Think Elizabeth would of been born around 1864 give or take a few years

Siobhan - sorry called you laura earlier, bit short of time but I did find a Mansfield (christian name not given) aged 57, blacksmiths wife, born Cowes, IoW with a daughter Elizabeth, aged 20, a staymaker, born Portsmouth. No one else in house. Address given as 46 Ridge Street, Portsea, Hampshire. Will have another look for you later.

Hi - me again, did a search of the index for Elizabeth but even with just a 5 year +or - on her age it gives 74 matches! For Laura there is only one that comes near, being born 1848 (the others were born in the 1860's) in Bucks, the census place being Notts. But there is no sign of an Elizabeth in household. Details are- 24 Dennett St, Nottingham St Mary, Nottingham John J 34 plumber and gas fitter b. Water Stratford, Buckingham Laura E 33 b. Lillingstone Dayrell John E 10 b. Maids Moreton Wm J 8 b. Longwick William Clarke father-in-law Widower 70 formerly farmer, b.Lillingstone Dayrell

Thanks for the searches. Don't think any of these are what I am looking for. The mother is Laura Mansfield (no idea of DOB) then the daughter Elizabeth Mansfield (born around about 1874) she married in 1894. Elizabeth married in the city of london and remained there for quite a while, so I am presuming she was possibly born around this area, but suppose it is possible that she wasn't.

Hi Siobhan, You can search the 1881 census online at the FamilySearch website. Good luck, Janice

yeah i know, have tried all kinds of variations on there but have had no luck. apparently it is not fully complete on family search, there are some missing. which is the reason I was looking for a lookup from someone who had the full 1881 census on CD. Thanks

The only Laura Mansfield on the discs of the right age is born 1848 in Bucks living in Notts with 3 children all younger than Elizabeth would have been but no Elizabeth. Could Elizabeth have been one of the many servants in London by that time ? The family in Notts have Laura's father William Clarke living with them. Any help ? Stephen

Trish Report 1 Nov 2003 07:44

Stephen, have already tried that one - but unfortunately not the right one. Possible that the family missed the census somehow? I have a g grandfather and all his family missing from the 1881 yet we know he was living in Bristol at the time. My grandmother and g grandmother are missing from the 1901 as well!

I suppose it is possible she could of been one of the servants in London. Perhaps I need to look at 1871 census to see if I can find her with her mother Laura Mansfield then. Thanks guys
