I have managed to trace my family tree back to 1848 and have the names of the parents who's birth date I would guess to be 1820's. As births didnt have to be registered before 1837 how do you go about tracing your tree before then? Any help would be great Thanks in Advance helen Horrocks |

Hi Helen, if you have a look under Resource Centre (on left of this page) and click on 'getting started' you will find all that you need to know but basically you should contact the County Records Office, for area that you wish to search, and they will hold Parish Records for births, marriages and deaths, wills and other documents. Remember to phone them first though and see if you need to make an appointment to be able to use their machines. You will find the staff at these offices very helpful and they will guide you through everything. |

You could always try the LDS site familysearch(.)org and work back from the last person you have information about. Whilst there are often inaccuracies it may give you something further to work on. I've had a lot of success by doing this. Sue |
