Jacky Not sure about the particular Registrars that you will have to write to but for mine, certainly, all I say in my letter is that if the parents' names are not what I have stated, then to please not bother and to just return my cheque. I always send to the local Registrars for my certificates and they are 7.00GBP. I am not sure how far back they go though. The earliest I have had so far is 1881 and I got that without any problem. You can only try it and see. Good luck.

Thank you Andrea and Gwyneth. I have also found an Ada with the correct parents on familysearch but do not know if this is the Eleanor Ada that you have found with the name Eleanor dropped after registration of birth. If I give the records office both of the parents names, will they only issue a certificate if Eleanor's parents are correct? And.... can I get a certificate this old from the local Registrar's Office which I understand is cheaper than from the FRO? Many thanks Jacky

Hi, All you get on the GRO is a reference number which allows you to send for the cert. To find out parents' names you need to buy the cert. Gwynne

Just had a look for you and the only Ada or Eleanor Plummer's in this year are as follows:- Ada born Lambeth 1 d page 442 Ada born Brentford 3a page 53 Ada Alice born Romford 4a page 154 All in September quarter. Then:- Eleanor Ada E born Hunslet 9b page 321 It is too early to have the Mother's maiden name, so I can't help you out any on that. Hope this helps.
