My wife has decided to start making clothes for our son and curtains etc for the new house we're moving to soon. She's got a sewing machine, some material and some patterns. She's looking for books/magazines/websites that will give her tips and general help. I know this is nothing to do with genealogy but some of you are bound to know a lot about this subject too. Thanks!

How weird is this! I have had my sewing machine out today after approx 10 years!! Couldn't find the manual but I managed to remember how to thread it. It recovered from the shock and is now all tucked back in its corner. Kathy Epsom, SRY

Dear John, Tell your wife to go to your nearest W.H.Smiths they have books and magazines for everything. Also a Singer Sewing shop they hold all the patterns there. There are lots of magazines that I get House Beautiful, also any other ones to do with home styling. I have been a seamstress on and off for 40yrs. I started making my own clothes at the age of 12. I have made a couple of Wedding dresses and loads of Bridesmaids dresses. I've recovered three piece suites and also lots of soft furnishings ( curtains, cushions etc;) The sewing machine I still use was bought for me by my ex-mother in law in 1975, a Toyota and it works perfect. Be happy in your new home John. Best wishes Diane...............
