Have you looked on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site? In addition to the military that were killed during the 2nd World War, they also list civilian casualties of the war - be warned though, it is a very sad site and I cannot help be moved when I go on there. All the best Jacqui

Hi Sue Number 86 was definitely built as was 84 and 83. I am going back Saturday for something else and will have another look just to make sure. I think the numbering went up into the 90's but would not swear on my computer's hard drive to that. I will email you Saturday. Michele in Haslemere

Hi Michele When you say other numbers higher than 85 had been built, was this odd or even numbers? It puzzles me as to where these extra houses were. I am still trying to find someone with local knowledge to ask about this area in the 1940s. I am going to Bourne Hall, which is our local museum, hopefully this week or the early part of next. I will check to see if they have a list of exactly where the bombs fell in Epsom and Ewell during WW2. Sue

Michelle, if I remember correctly Kingston library and Hook library have very good books on Surrey during the war which should cover the Ewell area. If you'd like me to try and look it up when I'm down there next week let me know. I'm also going to the Kingston local history centre for another member and they may have something on the same subject and they hold all old copies of the Surrey Comet which I can look for if I have time. Alternativelt the people there are very helpful and you could email them direct. Zoe

I have returned from my visit to the Surrey History Centre in search of electoral regs for 1939 and 1945. Found the road in West Ewell in the 1939 book, number 85 had not been built yet. But other numbers higher than 85 had been built. In 1945 Poole Road house numbers stop at 68. The only thing I can think of is that they were bombed in the war. Off the top of my head, notebook in the car, 29 flying bombs landed on the borough of Ewell and over 200 houses destroyed or badly damaged, several hundred people killed and injured. Can anyone think of where else I can look for the person I am seeking - Doris Eileen Anderson. I am using the address on my dad's newly received birth cert. Would the informant have to give proof of address? Any suggestions gratefully received
