Hi, The LDS doesn't charge for the use of their facilities but they do accept donations which go towards buying more "stuff" for the library. It's important to book a reader rather than turn up on speck because they get very busy. It costs £2.70 to order a film which is kept at the LDS for a month. Be seeing you, Gwynne

Hello fellow Coventrians! Just thought I would also add that the next meeting of Coventry Family History Society is on 11 November. If anyone else is intending to go, it would be great to put some faces to names! I too have never visited the LDS in Cov, but must plan a visit soon! Although I am planning to go down to London Road Cemetary if anyone has any pictures they want taking! I must have the grave and plot number though because it is huge! Regards Sally, Coventry

At the Warwick CRO you have to pay to use the GRO indexes. Is it the same at the LDS? John (formerly of Nuneaton)

Hi Iz, You can order any film in the LDS catalogue at any LDS centre and view it there. At the moment I'm searching the Parish records of Lowestoft Suffolk and the 1851 Bedwelty census on film. Coventry LDS also has the 1891 census for England and Wales, all the LDS CDs plus the GRO index up to the 1960s. Hope this helps, Gwynne

Thanks, Gwynne So long as I find some of my Bedworth and Wolvey lot I'll be more than happy Darren (Nuneaton)

Hi Darren, It's not very big but the people are helpful and friendly. The readers are quite good and they have a copier. I don't have any ancestors in Warwickshire so I'm not sure what they keep there. It's only a small room off the main church. However, they will order anything in the family History catalogue for you and it's usually there within a fortnight. Have a look at the catalogue on the www.familysearch.org website to see what the LDS have filmed that would be of use to you. On your first visit be sure to explore the Red Books which list everything that they have there permanently. We're a lively crowd on a Tuesday morning so if you like to search in silence best choose another day! Happy Hunting, Gwynne (Bedworth)

Hi Darren, It's in Riverside Close on the left as you go down the London Rd towards Coventry before the big roundabout. You can see the church from the road. The phone number to book a reader is 02476 303316. If you book a Tuesday morning I'm usually there and I'll help you around the system. Gwynne

Is it on the road leading to an Industrial estate?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 28 Oct 2003 14:38

Hi Darren, I was there this morning. It's just off the London Road opposite Safeway. It's open every day from 10 - 1pm (2pm on Tues, Wed and Thurs). It's open Tues, Wed and Thurs evening 7 - 9pm. You need to book a reader rather than just call in as they can get very busy. They have the GRO index the 1891 census plus all the usual LDS discs. There are local records available as well. Gwynne
