I have noticed that when we start a thread, all the text goes together in one big jumble but when you add a reply to a thread, you can spread it out into paragraphs - which is much easier to read. Is there a way to do this when we start a thread? If not, would it be worth us all starting a thread and then putting a note to "see message below" and then add to the thread with our proper message - especially if the message is long?? Opinions?

That has been done and seems to be the only way to make the message clear. Don't know why but it only happens on the opening message Kathleen

If it was such a wonderful idea - why didn't I do it?????? Thick as two short planks or what!!? I will do it in future as I know from my personal experience that messages are very confusing if they are just in one big block and there are lots of details to try and follow. Practice what you preach Andrea!

Something else I noticed today; if you're typing a reply and you include an ancestor's name, which contains a middle initial followed by a dot, GC seems to think that you're typing a website/e-mail address and so truncates everything after the dot. For example, if I write: Andy R.COOK then it truncates my surname. What I actually wrote just then was Andy R. COOK but without the space between the d0t and my surname. However, it doesn't do this if your message is an opening one rather than a reply. I'm not sure whether this means you can include a website address in your opening message without the use of brackets. Hope that wasn't too confusing. A.

Is it not possible to go back in to the long confusing message and re-format it as soon as it appears, before anyone else is confused? Stan

Hi everyone, I sent an email to GC about this very question over the weekend and I have just received a reply. I actually asked if there was anything I could to format the original message, following is the exact reply, "I can confirm that it is just the first message in a message chain that is condensed, this is because it is at the top of the page so as many messages can be seen below. But I can confirm that replies will vary depend on how they are typed in". Sandra (Lancs)

You only have problems with . when it's followed by c&o so an addy like this can be entered normally: http://www.genealogylinks.net/ but this one will not: www.heaven4me.com/geneology.html www.heaven4me(.)com/geneology.html
