Have just had a look on freeBMD for Florence Payne - who I knew nothing about. Her birth was registered in Yarmouth in March 1889 - and her death in Wellingborough in December 1895, age 6. How sad! |

Wow Ruth! Did you say that was from the 1891 census? Annie's family were all from Havelock Steet - so I'm pretty positive it is them. What on earth were they doing in Norfolk???!!! Yes, please, I'd love to see the image. Will email you. Many thanks! Kaz - if you're reading this, I'd still be interested to find Arthur's birth details and the name of his mother etc.! |

Hi Ruth In 1882 Arthur Payne married Annie Maria Vorley (sometimes recorded as Ann Vorley). Ann was born in Northampton. The marriage took place in the Salvation Army Mission Hall in Wellingborough and Arthur's occupation is given as Captain, Salvation Army. By 1901, he and Annie have moved to Orpington in Kent and his occupation has changed to Shoemaker. They had one daughter Ethel Payne (my grandmother) who, according to the 1901 census was then age 15. I have no idea whether she had any siblings but there are none listed on the 1901. |

Hi Susan Many thanks for your help! It looks as though I've got another brick wall... I've got Arthur's marriage certificate. He was married on the 26/10/1882 to Annie Maria Vorley (sometimes called Ann Vorley!) Arthur was aged 22 and Annie 24 and they married in the Salvation Army Mission Hall in Wellingborough. Arthur's occupation is given as 'Captain in Salvation Army'. On the 1881 census Arthur's place of birth is given as Wellingborough, Northants, and on the 1901, Harpole, Northants. Any ideas anyone? |
