where were they in 1851 and 1861???

Can anyone help me with a puzzle i have please? I have a William and Eliza Streeter in Stroud Green, Croydon, Surrey aged 40 and 35 in the 1841 census, then in the 1871 i can find them back in Stroud Green ,and Eliza widowed in the 1881, i can also find most of their children from 1851 onwards, BUT i cant find William and Eliza during the 1851 and 1861 census. Does anyone have access to anything that might help with this, or some ideas of where to look? Thankyou Yvette

Well William wasn`t in Devon Norfolk or Warwickshire in 1851.

Yvette, You need to try to find a current address. Have you tried looked them up in a trade directory? Also you can invest in a birth marriage or death certificate for an event as near as possible to the relevant census which can yield an address. That isn't foolprof though I have twice got certificates for that purpose and not found hide or hair. If you are desparate or interested enough, and depending on the size of the enumeration district, you can just trawl though the whole lot. There are also census indexes which can be a great short cut if they exist for the area you are looking in. Best of luck Pam

Hi Rosemary The Elizabeth Streeter b 1859 is actually the grandaughter of William and Eliza Streeter that i am searching for, most of William and Eliza's children lived in and around Stroud Green from 1851 thru to 1891, so i have their records as such. I am just curious as to why i cant seem to find William and Eliza on the 1851 and 1861, but can find their families. I am just so nosey, lol Regards Yvette

Pam I dont know what William snr did for a living but suspect he was a labourer if his sons were anything to go by, so not sure if a trade directory would help, but i will bear it in mind. The certificate idea is no good to me as they had finished having their children by 1839/40, so i guess i will have to try and find time to visit the local LDS record office and search their census records in the next few weeks.
