There are quite a few Census records online if that would cover the time you are looking for. try keying 'census Liverpool workhouse' into your search engine.

Hi, I don't know of anything online other than census records. The admission registers are usually held at County Record Offices. Hope this helps, Gwynne

I have just been on the 1901 site and did an Institution search as I was looking for a workhouse in Blackburn, Lancashire. It came up with the workhouse and I could then look at the census records for the workhouse. I found the person I was looking for but the records can be a bit vague - there was next to no info on the person I searched for so it doesn't necessarily help, but it's worth a try. Good luck.
