Crista, I thought the Robert Pegg in Middx was my ones father, until I saw from the 1851 that his father was William. But I think he must be an uncle or something. Not managed to prove it yet though. Thanks to you all for trying to help me. I WILL find him one day! Jan.

Mary, I wasn't so much looking for his birth record as to try and find where he was in 1881. Patricia, thanks for that, I'll check it out. And Crista - George living a few doors down from Robert - is that in the 1891? Thanks to you all for trying to help me. Jan.

Hi Jan. I don,t want to put a damper on it, but registration of a birth was not made compulsary until about 1870 and many mothers who were not married when they had their babies just did not register them. I think that your best option is to search the parish records for the baptism.

Stephen, thanks for trying to find him for me. Apologies for not replying sooner, but I've been off line for quite a while. Jan.

The nearest I can find on the discs is a Robert Pegg born 1843 in Sheringham Norfolk living with wife Susanna and children. Other than this the one before says born 1833 Stephen

Thanks for looking, everyone, I wonder where he has gone. I thought at first that the Robert born in 1820, Cab Proprietor, was his father, but he isn't, but in view of the name and occupation I'm sure he's a relative somehow, just can't fit him in yet. Its like doing a jigsaw puzzle with lots of the pieces missing and no picture on the box. Thanks again for trying, Jan.

Sally, Jan, A December birth would come under Jan to Mar quarter. Many of my rellies born in December were registered after the New year so it is highly likely you have the right person. Marion

Hi Jan The only Robert, with any surname, born in Holt in 1840, on 1881 census is Robert LOADES, a coachman, living in Cambridge with his wife Emma. Even allowing for transcription errors, I don't think this can be him!!! Geography is not my strong point so I don't know if any other Roberts were born near Holt in 1840. I also found the one born in 1820 (his father?) Sorry I couldn't be more helpful Sue

I'm looking for Robert David Pegg, born in Holt, Norfolk, in December 1840. I've found his parents, his brother and his sister in the 1881, even his future wife, but of him there is no trace. The nearest I've found is a Robert Pegg born in Suffolk, living with no sign of wife but with several children in Lambeth. This one is shown as Coachman Domestic - in the 1891 "my" Robert Pegg is shown as Cab Proprietor living in Newington. Any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated. Jan.
