I know some people will think this is really sad but today I came down the stairs and saw that big white envelope waiting for me. When I opened it it confirmed weeks of research. The parents of my Geat Grandfather John Abbott on his birth certificate. Thanks to all who helped as it was complicated due to an early death, a remarriage, and an L where a T should have been. The one thing I have learnt from all this is never give up. Although I believe the next stage looking for Mary Ann Mitchell could be just as hard. Shirl

I know that feeling all too well and it is wonderful!!! I normally send for birth certificates when I know the parents names and then the certificate gives me the mother's maiden name to enable me to go a bit further back. It's a wonderful feeling and it never gets boring. Every time you get a hit you wanna dance and sing!!!!! After all the work we have to put in to get these hits, I think our joy is well deserved. A word of advice though, leave it until the next day before you start your next bit otherwise the joy soon wears off once you get stuck again!! Well done! Keep up the good work - the hits (and the feeling you get from them) are REALLY worth it!

Jill, Sorry for the delay in answering but have been to work all day. My Mary Ann Mitchell is from Southwark born around 1845. Lots of them on Freebmd. But have found a marriage which I think is hers to John Abbott 1867. Another certificate to send off for. Shirley

Due to the wonderful people on here, I was able to crack the mystery of my g grandparents marriage. Once I had that, a load of other names just fell into my lap. Just got to take the time to document it all now. Dont you just love it when a plan comes together

Not sad at all Shirley! The first of my certificates arrived a couple of weeks ago and left me feeling quite emotional. They were the birth and marriage certificates of my great grandmother from 1861 and 1886 and just reading them brought me a great feeling of nostalgia about a person who died many years before my birth but with whom I share a familial bond and DNA. She was a genetical contibutory factor in making me the person I am after all ! I notice that you share a family name with me....Walter John Abbott was my grandfathers name and I was born Pamela Abbott. Happy searching !!!
