No you have to pay for the credits or you can't look at the information. If you think you will need to do a lot of looking its cheaper to pay more up front. I used up a lot of five pounds searching for people I wanted as the data is not very searchable at all.

Hayley It can be cheaper to go to your nearest (that's if it is near) Library that has a local studies dept. Look thru the St Catherine's index for nothing! Ann,Darlington

I have to say...I don't think this is a very good site at all if you do not know the precise date. Although you can type in a surname, you are not really searching for the surname, just the first few letters, which means you often have to go through alot of pages and alot of credit until you do or don't find what you are looking for. What we need is a site like scotlands people for England. If you haven't got alot of information it would probably work out cheaper booking a cheap train or coach journey to your nearest family records centre.

It is 2 buses to my local LDS. A day rider at £2.80 and I can stay and search all day. As it is on fiche and film, not good on the old eyes though.

I think it depends on your circumstances. Most of my free time is taken in snatches during the day and night in between school runs and work so trips to the library or lds centres are usually few and far between. You can waste a lot of your credits, but for me its still been worth it as I have found a number of rellies this way. Beside, my library only has 1890 - 1950 which can be useless when you have gone further back.
