Can anyone tell me how much it cost to order a copy of a marriage cert from local registry officies. |

If you apply to the local Registrar of where the event happened, it should be around 7.00 GBP. Thats all I pay and that is for the full version, rather than the short version. I just send a letter with the details, my cheque made out to the local Council and an SAE. |

A short certificate is the one you get for free when you register a baby's birth. All it has is name and date of birth. Useless for family history as there are no parents names on it. A cert from a local register office is £7. same price as online from the GRO. These are a transcription of the original though, so if the registrar finds the writing difficult you may get mis-information that can throw you off course. The GRO one is a print of the original. May be hard to read but at least you can make your own decision. Margaret |

I would suggest going for the original as I have been thrown off course by a mis-transcription by a local office, unless you already know the name and just want the exact date/location. |
