I know this post is many years old, but am posting for info only, should anyone else stumble across it.

I can confirm that 26 Wolverton Avenue is right next to (and was used as the address of) Kingston Hospital. It would seem that unmarried mothers where put up in accomadation in the local area and had their children at the hospital. A lot of these children were later adopted, me included.

My mother lived at 18 Richmond Park Road known as Kingston Deanery Home, run by Magdelene Homes.

Thanks for all the tips etc. I had an email from someone on a Surrey list saying 85 Poole Road is no longer standing. I shall go to the Surrey History centre and look it up on the electoral register and see who lived there. I am off work for 4 days next week so discovering I shall go! Will let you know how I get on.

Michele, You could look at electoral registers but she wouldn't be on those unless she was 21. Crista

Hi Sue - thanks for the offer, please check your contacts. : ) Gwynne - it seems that 26 Wolverton Avenue is where Kingston Hospital is so it seems as if this is where he was born. I will tryand find some historical info on the hospital as I trawl through all my new info as i come across it. thanks for the suggestions. Gave my Dad his cert this morning and he was pleased, he had been thinking about it and remembers being told he wasn't adopted until he was 8 months old and that he had not been in the children's home for more a few weeks. He had wonderful adoptive parents, Grandpa died in 1969 but Granny was with us until 1996 - 7 months after her 100th birthday. Both were much loved parents/grandparents they adopted 2 other girls before my dad, sadly one died at age 6 in 1938, that is why they adopted a third child and my dad was the lucky one.

Hi, It's a possibility that the address was a "Mother and baby" home. Like St Faith's etc but the address was given rather than the title of the home. Many institutions did that. Gwynne

Hi Michelle Poole Road, West Ewell is a residential road of (I would guess) 1930's built houses. There is no hotel there now as far as I know. I will be picking my granddaughter up from school tomorrow and usually park in Poole Road. I will look for number 85 if you like. Regards Sue

Thanks Crista I have also found 2 in Surrey 1922 and 1909, found through looking at deaths on 1837onlne. Need to find some more info but will probably order the 1922 birth cert/1995 death cert. Want to find some more info on her first, where she worked or lived. Would have to look at Electoral roll for 1940 I suppose. Any thoughts? Michele PS. will be buying the HH tommorrow and scan the local BMD's for you. : )

That is possible, I was born in a hospital, but on my birth certificate, it states a number and name of the road.

I have today received my Dad's birth cert. His birth mother was Doris Eileen Anderson, the cert gives her job and her address and where my dad was born NE Surrey. He was later adopted. He was born in Feb but not registered until 8th April, I wonder if she kept him for a while? No father's details but hadn't held my breath on that one. What I really would like help with is the addresses: 85 Poole Road West Ewell was where she was working in a hotel. My dad was born at 26 Wolverton Avenue - local to Ewell I guess. There is a good chance she is no longer alive but how would I go about finding out any info? I do not wish to upset anyone. I have called my Dad and although he had never felt the need to trace anyone in the past he was pleased to know her name and wants to see if we can find out more. Funny thing is, he was taken to a children's home in the west country and that is where his adoptive parents found him and they brought him back to their home in SW Surrey!
