Hi! Yes, many of the helpful suggestions about Norton came in response to an earlier thread from me, including the instructions from Margaret and Andrew. I tried all the adjustments but still couldn't get it to work trouble and error-free. (I was running the 2002 version of Norton System Work and Firewall.) Anyway, my whole system is running a LOT better without it... Linda

Here is the reply form Margaret. Added by Margaret in Burton on Trent on 14/10/2003 17:48:02 I might not explain this very well, but here goes. You can always check in your Norton handbook. Double click on the norton icon.at the top it says Options. click on that and then internet security. click the web content tab at the top. click on add site, at the bottom. add the address for freebmd without the http\\ bit and don't put any back slashes on it either. highlight the address when you have added it and on the global settings tab, on the second one down, information about visited sites, click permit. click ok. that should work. I had to do this and I found the info on the symantec website. but, I can't find it now. As I said it's in the manual I would think. Just one thing, I have Norton Security 2003. I don't know if all versions are the same, but they can't differ much Margaret

Hi Linda, Lynda and Debbie I also have Norton 2003 with Firewall enabled and I don't have any problems accessing Free BMD or GC. There was a thread earlier on this board, from someone who knows more about Norton than I do, telling you how to configure Norton Firewall to access these sites. I'll try and find it and nudge it. Hi Linda & Lynda, This topic comes up frequently, and puzzles me, as I run Norton and don't have these problems! Is it maybe down the different versions, I run Norton Anti-virus 2003, and always have the firewall enabled. Debbie

Linda I've just had the Norton firewall installed and I have the same problem, also you can't order from the GRO, whilst you have it on, so frustrating, unless there is another solution I'll have to look for an alternative also. Lynda

For months I struggled to use freeBMD whilst trying to protecting my PC with Norton - and it's driven me nuts! I've always had to turn off the firewall, otherwise I simply haven't been able to do any searches. I've had problems with other sites to, but as you'll appreciate, the one that matters the most is freeBMD... and GC, of course! Today, I've given up! I've uninstalled all the Norton products, and installed the NetProtect system offered by BT Openworld instead. All is now magically well and everything is running smoothly with no error messages or warnings. It was easy to do, quite reasonable in cost (£3.50 per month) and it's also found a couple of infected files on my PC which Norton had failed to identify. So, if you're having similar frustrations with Norton, I would advise you to give it the boot and try another product. There'll be no stopping me now...
