Hi Debbie, Can you please send me the address again as my e-mails to you are being returned? St Andrews to Perth is about 32 miles away and today would take about 50 minutes to drive there. You can imagine how long it would take all those years ago.... Regards Margaret

Hi Debbie, St Andrews is quite far from Perth and it's in a different County. What else do you have that makes you think that he is the one? Did you get my e-mail? Regards Margaret

Hi Have just found an Edward Ferguson in the 1901 Census - he was working as a Commercial Clerk in Newcastle. It lists his age as 18, which means he was born in 1883, and it gives place of birth as St Andrews, Scotland - which is near Perth. Could this be luck? This would have made him 61 when they married, which could be right. What do you think??

Debbie I meant Edward Ferguson! sorry for the confusion max xx

Debbie Report 18 Oct 2003 22:04

Thank you so much for persevering - although you may be getting the grandfathers confused - David Bratchie McInnes is the one that was born in 1916 and, therefore, not listed on Scotspeople - I've had a thought about him, as he died in 1976 and I was 11 years old I have a recollection that he died around his birthday time, so that makes it Nov or Dec. Edward Ferguson is the one that was possibly born before 1901 and we only know when he married - 19th Aug 1944 to Susan Fraser and that was in Perth. Hope this helps! Regards Debbie

Hi Debbie, If its the Scottish records you want to search then you need to search then yes you need to get them from the Scotland People site (scotlandspeople(.)gov(.)uk. I have listed the dates of the records that you can search. You will not find the 1916 one on there as births can only be seached up to 1902. Let me know if you need any further help as I have used the site quite a bit. Max South London will also be very happy to help you as she has used the site quite a bit too, I'm sure many members have. OPRI & SRI Birth & Christenings (1 January 1553 - 1902) OPRI & SRI Marriages (1 January 1553 - 1927) SRI Deaths (1855 - 1952) OPRI = Old Parish Records Index SRI = Statutory Records Index Regards Margaret

Max With regard to Edward Ferguson, we have been informed that he was "a lot older" than Susan Fraser when he married her in 1944. She was born in 1925, making her 19, but we have been told that he was in his 50s or 60s! So he may well be listed!

Hi Am new to this board and would like some advice on how to find out any info about my grandfather and my husband's grandfather, both born in Scotland. My grandfather was born David Braitchie McInnes, born 1916 near Glasgow - possibly Helensburgh, Cardoss or Alexandria. He married Vera Tessaromatis in England in . I do not have their marriage certificate as we are unsure of wedding date. Really interested in trying to find where and when he was born. Also, husband's mother was adopted but her father was called Edward Ferguson m. Susan Jamieson Fraser on 19th august 1944. Want to find out his birth date and parent details. Would I need to get this from Scotspeople? Regards
