GC Membership Fees

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Bob Report 19 Oct 2003 10:40

We've been here before...This was GC's reply then "To confirm again, the annual charge to upgrade to full membership is currently £7.50. As this is still a new website and it is not a year since we created an upgraded membership, there is no such thing as renewals just yet. However, when it is time for renewals, it will be the same price to renew an upgraded membership as it would be to pay to upgrade for the first time. ## Please could we again politely ask that any questions that you have regarding the website or your membership are sent directly to the GenesConnected Support Team through the Help area of the website rather than being posted here - these Message Boards are intended for you, our members to use and, although we do read the boards from time to time, we are a very small team at GenesConnected and we may well miss certain postings on here - you can also be guaranteed of a quick personal response if you email our support team directly ## Your co-operation is much appreciated"

We seem to have two threads on this topic at the moment (see also Peter Bonner's of yesterday entitled "Family History Monthly"). Margaret Smith has a posting there saying that she e-mailed GC about this and has been told that the membership fee is to increase to £7.50 per year. I am still waiting for a reply to my e-mail, but this does seem a lot better than having to pay £5.00 per month. David

What would you get for £5 a month? The facility to contact other members? So the site would still be open to us,,,its just the contact thing we couldnt do, In all the time I have been a member I have never found a contact,so I am definatly not paying a fiver a month 'just incase'.

About 3 weeks ago there was a lot of discussion about fees on one of the boards and GC administrators posted a reply. They said the fees would be £7.50 a year for the moment. They also said not to put messages to admin on the boards as they don't always read them but to e mail them direct. ann Glos

I have contacted GC and ask them to look at this thread and to clarify the situation. Still waiting for a reply. If they contact me and do not post on this board, I will post their reply. Just a thought - do they have weekends off !!!!!!!!!! Margaret

We'd all have to select a month, have everyone subscribe for it, and then frantically find as many relatives as possible then!

Thanks to everyone for comments. I have e-mailed GC as Margaret suggested and will let you know how they reply. I for one would certainly have to leave this site if the membership fee increased to £5 per month - at least if I wanted to continue buying certificates! Let's keep our fingers crossed that if there is to be an increase in the fee it will be lower than the Family History Monthly article suggests. David

Hi guys I'm not a full member (yet) and the site says it costs £7.50 a year - no mention of a monthly fee.

Hi David, Have you tried sending an e-mail to GC? They don't always read all these messages and normally are very quick to respond to you. They have also responded to a similar post a few weeks ago. Regards Margaret

Clearly quite a bit of confusion about this. Come on GC, please clarify what you have in mind. You stand to lose members if you move to a monthly subscription. That would be a great shame for what is a very good site!

It's a wonderful site, but they'll lose a lot of members if they start charging a monthly membership. It's just too much for a lot of us to afford!!! Kathy

Lucky Report 18 Oct 2003 10:17

When I paid my £5 for the year in May, the message at the time said that as from the end of may it was going to be £5 per month. I would not pay that. A small yearly fee is fine but there is no guarantee you are going to connect with anyone. I have used the site since it begun and only connected directly with someone from my tree this week.

Margaret Report 18 Oct 2003 10:04

We've had this thread before, GC reckoned that the price was going to £7.50 a year not month. I'll email them to clarify it Margaret

Debbi Report 18 Oct 2003 10:02

Have just seen a piece in the November issue of Family History Monthly which suggests that GC's membership fee is likely to increase to £5 per month shortly. £5 per MONTH??? Surely not!
