Thanks Lucy That has given me food for thought. The fathers name, on the baby's birth certificate, appears to be the brother shown on the census. Must have read that one incorrectly! or perhaps not, might not even be the the correct Emma. confused Tricia

Thanks Crista and Max As the father was living in north London, it looks as if St Lukes could be the one. I have the distinct feeling that this branch of the tree is going to get chopped off before it starts growing. So I suppose I will have to follow the paternal line, unless there is some way to check on the addresses I have for Emma. Possibly electoral rolls? Tricia

I've had a look on the 1891 census. Can't find any Emma Carron of around 20 in the London area, but there is Emma Carrod (think this is a transcription error as looks like Carron on schedule) however, she is 12 - born Stockwell though. Possibly an error on age transcription for either 1891 or 1901 census. If you want a copy of the schedule to see for yourself - email me and I'll forward it to you. Emma.

Hi Crista Thanks for that information. I have just looked on the 1901 and yes , there is an Emma Carron b Stockwell and on the 1881 census I have found an Emma Caron born, St Lukes. Middx. Think I now need to find out if Stockwell is near St Lukes. regards Tricia

Patricia, There's a 30 year old single Emma Carron on the 1901 in the area you mention. Carron isn't that common a surname. She shouldn't be too hard to track down. Crista

In 1911, my husband's mother was born 'out of wedlock' and on the certificate it gives her mothers name as Emma Carron. residing at 6 Vale Road Hackney. The birth was registered by Emma one month later and her address was given as 10 Pemberton Gardens. Islington. My question is how can I find out any more about Emma? ie date and place of birth or her parents. hopefull Tricia
