I have just tried your way Max and it works thankyou, also thankyou to you Robert for your help. One more question I have the Father on the 1901 and I have the son on 1901, did I see on a thread a bit ago that you can do something on the "census decoder" as I would like the name of the mother and possibly the other siblings. You can print out from DC but often the results are often unreadable, and its not very friendly. it depends on the file size. Once in the the spreadsheet you can edit font size, row heght etc. and also print preview so you know what your getting. You can save to excel if your SS can open. CSV is I think a file which any old spreadsheet will open. Fit to page as max says and I assume your printing in landscape/wide? which helps. Also I have read that PRO have done something which makes the peice/folio columns unavailable so they can be deleted.

Hello Robert, I have just tried what you told me, I got it on two pieces of paper, I am getting nearer, does it not print on one? What is the difference between saving it CSV and excel?

I just click on print and although the census county, occupation and ref columns print out on a second sheet, I get everything. But thanks, Robert, for pointing out what CSV stands for!! Sue

The best way is to save the file as a CSV (comma seperated variable) file and then open in a spreadsheet. Nearly all will open these files even if they dont say so just select "all Files" in the open menu. Dont mess about with decoder. Once in the spreadsheet they can be edited and saved and printed as desired. .

Sue Know what you mean! I don't know if there is another way of doing it - perhaps someone else does .........? But what I do, is to move each of the dividing lines to take up all the wasted space until it fits on one page. I'm sure there must be a better way of doing it though! Janet
