Jackie I've just ordered a cert by telephone. First rang the register office in the district the marriage was registered but he said he had too many to search through. So went to order the cert online from the GRO but they needed the date and place which I didn't have. But there was a telephone number - 0870 243 7788 - which I rang. They needed names on cert, year and quarter if poss, registration district and reference number, all of which I had from Free bmd. Oh, and of course you will need a debit or credit card. They said it willl take 5 working days. Hope this helps Jeanette

Hi there, The best place to get a birth certificate is from the registration district where it was registered. For Chorley you will have to write to the Superintentent Registrar, Register Office, 16, St. George's Street, Chorley.PR7 2AA Give the name of the person, the quarter and year it was registered and the name of the father and if possible the name of the mother. Send a cheque for 7 pound and a stamped and addressed envelope. If the father does not match, then they will return your cheque so that you will have paid nothing except the postage. Mary

Hi I found the staff at Chorley really helpful I had sent a letter asking if they held details of my Gt Grandparents marriage enclosing a cheque. . 2 days later I received a 'phone call from them saying yes they had but I had made the cheque out to the wrong person ,but I could pay by credit/debit card and they would send out the certificate I received this the next morning + Cheque Bren
