Hi, Irene is a Greek name meaning Peace. It isn't short for anything other than its variation - Irena Gwynne

Hello Siobhan I think that people named Irene were sometimes known as Rene (pronounced Reeny). Sandra (Lancs)

Irene is sometimes shortened to Reenee. Not sure how its spelt, but thats how its pronounced, anyway. Possibly Rene? Renie? Reenie? Jan.

Have you tried looking under LITTLE or JOHNS? My grandfather's marriage was proving impossible to find until I found it recorded under just half of his surname.

Hi Siobhan Have you noticed that there is a Abbey Kerina Littlejohns on GC, born in Salisbury in 1903. Could Kerina be your Irene? Just a thought!
