One that I find extremely useful is an American publication by Paul Milner and Linda Jonas, "Discovering your English Ancestors", a Betterway Books publication ISBN #1-55870-536-8. There's lots of information about civil registration and it's indexes, analysing civil registation, libraries and family history societies, parish registers and probate records and much more. It was US$18.99,(Ca$29.99), and I should imagine would be available on the internet, book stores in UK, or the library. Well worth looking for! Di. |

Also by Jean Cole and John Titford I would recommend "Tracing You Family Tree", also "The Family and Local History Handbook" is very useful, and i will second Mark Herber's Ancestral Trails. Ros |

Highly recommend 'Succeeding in Family History, helpful Hints and time saving Tips by John Titford pricw £6.95 I bought this recently from a National Trust bookshop, it is fascinating I read it all in one go and now just look up when I have a problem with something. Penny |

For your Xmas list - look at it in the library or Smith's - Ancestral Trails by Mark D Herber. Costs about £20 but covers EVERYTHING to do with British Genealogy. Maz. XX |

I got one free with my Family Tree software...really good for beginners. Its called "How to research your Family Tree - Everything you'll need to know to get started" by Joanna Skelt. Also Practical Family History magazine is useful too. Kay |

The readers digest is fabulous it is very informative and gives you surgestions for everything, It is the only book i would recommend. |
