I was born in September 1963 BUT on the "1837 online.com" site I have found my birth as being registered in December of 1971....how can that be? I thought all births had to be registered within a certain time limit, does anyone have any explanations?

Alyson Parents who marry after the birth of a child do not have to re-register the birth but they can do so if the natural father's details were omitted at the time of registration. The re-registration is made under Section 14 of the Birth & Registration Act 1953 and replaces the original registration. Look at the web site www(.)col(.)statistics(.)gov.uk/ remove brackets. This will also answer your other query about ordering a birth certificate for your half brother.

Hi Alyson, If you phone or visit the particular registry office they will tell you. Does it say: When Registered: On the authority of the registrar general? If it does there will definately be a reason listed as I had the same thing on my mother in law's certificate. Laurie
