Hi Alyson, I order mine the same as Lynda through the GRO. Laurie

I order my certificates online via the 1837 website. If you've got the GRO (ie. the QTR, Vol and Page) they cost just £7 and arrive in about a week-ish! You don't need the exact date of birth - or of a marriage or death.

I usually get mine from the local register office. It costs £7 and you get them in about a week. If you know the quarter and have any other details you can give such as parents names or address at the time they can usually find it. I had a birth in 1883 and I knew the address was the same as the 1881 census so I gave them that and the father's name and occupation as well as the year and childs full name. They found it ok. Mel

Yep, with the reference you can phone southport gro and ask for the cert. 08702437788 tell them the year and quarter and the reference . They have a backlog at the mo so it can take up to two weeks to get the certificate. They cost more than getting it from the local reg office £8.50. The difference is as well that they photocopy the original entryand it can be hard to read at times. Still if it means you get what you are after then go for it!

I have found an entry on 1837.com site for my half brother who I am trying to find, I therefore had the index reference number etc. But, cannot order the cert as I do not have the specific date of birth, can anyone suggest what I can do now?
