Genealogy Chat

Just a little bit of humour I saw recently. Why did the genealogists wife leave him? Because he spent too much time with his family.

I ve` sorted the grankids out by doing a file each for them which I add their pictures and awards too as well as copying the information and copies of certificates. They are more interested in the pictures of themselves. My husband says mm yes when I show him his relations. Tried to get him interested but no joy just mmm yes. Mary

You could just point out to him that at least he has complete control of the TV remote control. I know that my husband sees that as the only benefit of this new obsession of mine. Tricia

I don't know about genealogy and divorce, but my husband was a bridge player when we got married and he tried to teach me. It was obviously going to be a difficult job, and then he told me that the majority of husband/wife murders in America were committed by bridge playing spouses. Decided there and then that I would never learn to play!! Sue

Maggy, I have to agree! Without GC I'd be mumbling to myself all the time!!! I think the answer to my problem is to move the computer downstairs! It may seem a simple solution that will bring me back in touch with my family, but it also means I'll be interupted even more! I can't win Eleanor

carol snap!!!...lol hubby went a bought me a puter a few weeks ago,cos he could never get on his!!! his tree had come to a standstill whilst mine was growing!!! im now at a standstill cos it appears my grandsparents werent even born,yet they died...lol

My husband finds my hobby amusing too, but no clash about the computer. We have one each. We can only be online one at a time, but we can usually come to an arrangement about that.

lol I agree, mine are the same! Fortunately I have found various cousins who are happy to discuss it all. My hubby thinks I am weird, and even when I traced his family he showed nothing other than initial interest. My brother reckons its only interesting if you find a 'live one'. My children have now learned to cook for themselves......

My husband also says that I am obsessed!! None of my family are the slightest bit interested in their ancestors apart from mum, who is interested but soon gets confused by it all! Thank goodness that I have genesconnected to discuss things with!! Maggy, West Yorkshire

It's not just me then! My 8 year old keeps asking to play her Harry Potter CD Rom, but as you say, my research is far more important! My 4 year old is convinced that the GC site is a supermarket site and that I must be placing an order!!! She asks me to type in all manner of goodies that she fancies! The 3 year old comes in and says "no more 'puter mummy!" What am I doing!!!!!! My own lovely children are being sidelined in favour of a generation of people who don't even know my husband exists!! Eleanor Not sure about the divorce status as my husband is amused by my 'little' hobby, even came to the library to help me search the GRO death records the other day, maybe the family that searches together stays together, lol. However i think my teenagers are on the verge of disowning me as a bad mother, they are having to do more things for themselves since i found this site, much to their dismay! and they cant get on the computer to play games, as my searches are far far more important, lol Yvette

I wonder whether obsession with genealogy and family trees has ever been cited as grounds for divorce!! If it hasn't, it soon could be! I've only been searching for a couple of months and the whole family, especially my husband, say I'm obsessed!!! It doesn't bode well does it! I wouldn't mind, but it isn't my family I'm researching, my Great Aunt has that in the bag! It's my husbands lot I'm after and they don't want to be found!! Eleanor
