Hello, I am trying to find out who the parents are of Elizabeth Robinson (my great granma). She was born in Cockermouth in 1860 according to the 1901 census, then her married surname was Ellwood. In the 1881 census I can only find a Lizzie Robinson living in the household of John Thornburn. ThereforeI am unable to find out who her parents were. I am told that Elizabeth has a brother Frederick and that her parents were funeral directors/joiners in Cockermouth. Is anyone able to do a lookup in an earlier census when she would have been living with her parents?? Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance, Gillian.

Elizabeth Robinson christened 13 May 1860, All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, parents John Robinson and Mary. An IGI search shows 11 Robinson children born to parents John and Mary between 1817 and 1862, so I very much doubt they were the SAME John and Mary - hope not, any way. Here is the list: 1. MARY ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 28 APR 1822 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 2. MARY JANE ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 24 JUN 1849 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 3. MARY JANE ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 28 JUL 1861 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 4. MARIA ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 06 JUL 1862 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 5. ELIZABETH ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 13 MAY 1860 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 6. JOHN ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 27 JUL 1856 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 7. THOMAS ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 27 JUL 1856 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 8. REBECCA ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 18 FEB 1821 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 9. SARAH ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 25 APR 1847 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 10. ANN ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 14 SEP 1858 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England 11. RICHARD ROBINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 22 JUN 1817 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England Not a Frederick among them though. Jan.

Hi Jan!! You helped me before I think with my search for Elizabeth Robinson at the beginning of Sept!! I found the IGI record for Elizabeth but was not sure it was the correct Elizabeth. Also in the 1881 census, Mary Robinson is a widow, a brother Fred is listed in the same household but his occupation is joiner (1901 census) and my family are adamant that he worked in the post office. Apparently my mother (his great niece) remembers being shown around the post office where he worked in Cockermouth!! Also the Robinson family in the 1881 census are listed as being Tailors and my mother says they were funeral directors!! Therefore you can understand how difficult it seems to be to track down Elizabeth's parents!! Thanks, Gillian
