Hiya - the FRC (Family Records Centre) holds the Indexes to all Births, Marriages and Deaths registered in England and Wales since mid 1837. You can check the index entries - which tell you where the event was registered - and order certificates. Checking points are a way of saying "only send the certificate if ..." eg fathers name is Fred, occupation is fireman etc. If the entry you have requested does not match, you get half your money refunded. The FRC also holds Census records from 10 yearly intervals 1841-1901. Non-conformist records, wills to 1850 and some other bits and bobs. Parish records are usually kept at the relevant county record office and record events that took place in a particular church - baptisms, weddings and funerals/burials. SOME of these have been transcribed to form the IGI and the VRI. The FRC and the county record offices have their own websites which give details of hours and what they hold. Hope this helps someone. My last chance to find her is this final GRO reference Annie BROWN MArch 1882 West Ham 4a 593, parents should be James and Annie nee Coggins. Have never made it up to the FRC so don't know if the GRO reference is useful. I see you have lots of requests and will understand if you can't do it. Your best bet is to order the other certificate stipulating any checking points to reduce the chance of receiving a wrong certificate. I thought the FRC was somewhere that one could look at details of the record before ordering the certificate. I am even more confused about the parish records. This Annie is on the 81 census as beiing born in Kensington. Two GRO references matched her name and age, both were wrong according to the ONS. This one in West HAm (where her grndmother was living) was my final hope. I did go to the London Met Archives and look at the parish records for that period, unfortunately she wasn't there nor were her siblings until 1992 - approx 10 years and 4 siblings later! Any thoughts for me?
