Thanks to both for replying,some serious rethinking to do-why didn't he sail or if not allowed to disembark,where did he go.My own life is complicated enough without dead rellies mucking it up further!!!!!!

If a name is crossed through on the Ellis Island manifest, it usually means that the person either did not sail or was not allowed to disembark at point of entry.

Hello all, I have a query regarding ship's manifests on Ellis Island site. If a name is crossed through on the manifest,does this mean that the passenger in question died on route or did he miss the boat and not sail at all? Unfortunately I have no clue on this one and would be most grateful for any advice or ideas on how I can check this out.Many thanks,Sinead.
