Hi Lucy - thanks for your offer... Only info we have is from a cemetary register, which shows name as AL or AH then DAK or DUK. Shown as male, age 36 at death in 1893. ANYTHING would be great!! We have an address in 1893 of 40 Henniker Gardens, East Ham. Thanks for your offer. Maz. XX UPDATING!!!! Have just found entry on FreeBMD - working for me at last - as surname AH first name DUK death registered in Stepney, so may not be where I thought...

When you see a chinese name written down e.g. Oh Ah Sack -Oh is the surname and Ah-Sack the forename. However many chinese immigrants especially those that settled and weren't just here on the ships kept their surname as their forename making it incredibly difficult to trace them. Also they anglicised their forename to make it their surname!! Confused....I am! Emma.

Hi Marion, I assume this is a chinese name. I had a chinese relative in that area around the same time (so I thought) I eventually found him in Liverpool - obviously he moved down to Limehouse later. What's the actual name you've got? I'll have another look for you. Emma.

Is there a way of searching by birthplace? Would you be able for example to search for anyone born in China with the first name Dak or Duk, or surname Al or Ah or similar?? Clutching at straws!! Maz. XX

Marian No luck, I thought there was an Al, but it was mis transcribed, they hadn't seen the ditto symbols for the name above. No Dak as a first name either. Margaret

Please can someone look for any entry for surname Al or Ah in Poplar/Limehouse area. Possible first name of Dak. Probably male, possibly aged around 30. Any info would be great. Thanks. Maz. XX
