Darren, For FreeBMD, less is more. Just fill in the surname and select the registration district. Check IGI too. I found the Burgess and Hewitt families there. Crista

thanks Crista, It does seem to fit all my info. And they go on to have a George , John and William they could have been named after the children who died. Thanks again Crista

Darren, Both the 1881 census and the 1901 census are FULL of spelling and transcription errors. The fact the name Hewitt is spelt Hewett is not at all surprising. Believe me, this is nothing unusual. Crista

Darren, My hunch was correct. I went to IGI and found that Rosa Amelia and John William WERE John and Sarah's. JOHN WILLIAM HEWITT Birth: 15 JAN 1874 Christening: 03 MAY 1876 Bedworth, Warwick, England Father: JOHN WILLIAM HEWITT Mother: SARAH ROSA AMELIA HEWITT Birth: 10 JAN 1872 Christening: 19 MAY 1872 Bedworth, Warwick, England Death: 08 OCT 1873 Father: JOHN WILLIAM HEWITT Family Mother: SARAH Crista

thanks crista, i've not had much luck with Freebmd, not sure if i'm doing it right just seem to get the name and the registry no. Like i said this all seems spot on part from the spelling. I know that families change the spellings over the years cos another of my relatives have done it but seems strange that John would change his whole family's name over the next 20 years

Darren, If you go to FreeBMD and search for Hewitts in the Folehill district you can see that Timothy George died at 6. I think there were a few more loses before that too. Perhaps a Rosa Amelia and a John William. My reasoning behind this is the names and the fact they were married in 1871 but Timothy wasn't born until 1876. Crista

Thanks Laurie, I in Nuneaton so i'm not to far away either, All the info that has been posted smells right apart from the spelling of Hewitt. I have a William J & Rose A & Timothy would be 25 by 1901 and prob. married. only probs are that my grandma doesn't mention an uncle Timothy althou he could have died, and the Spelling.

Hi Darren, If you get stuck with Bedworth let me know as I live 2mins down the road and could always have a look through theier records. Sometimes Bedworth is classed as Nuneaton & Bedworth Laurie

Darren, From FreeBMD: Marriages Dec 1871 Burgess Sarah Foleshill 6d 764 HEWITT John William Foleshill 6d 764 From the 1881 census you can see that John's wife is Sarah Burgess as his father in law is living with him. Bedworth is in the Foleshill district. Crista

The 1901 census lists John and his wife as being born in bedworth, the same with all their kids, their ages range from 22 - 6 so they should be on another census for bedworth. Thanks i could'nt see that.

It had crossed my mind. only i'm sure the 1901 census states they were married or is that a small fib :) That woould mean that the would on an earlier census

I am having trouble finding the marriage of my GGGrandfather John W Hewitt in the copies of the Parish Records for Bedworth, Warickshire. I can find find all his children and what happen to them but not his marriage. I know that in 1901 he was 52 and his wife was Sarah, and that the house that they were living in had only been built 4 yrs prev. I have search the parish record back to 1865 but cannot find him. Could they have moved from another area and how would i find out.
