Hi, I usually phone Southport and have never been asked for the exact date of death. I can't understand why they ask for it on the website. Gwynne

Elizabeth, local register offices don't charge for a search, and if they think it's not the right person they will send you your money back, they are usually quicker than the GRO. The GRO is not your only option. Ros

Hi, The death will be on the GRO index. If you search the index and find the reference you can order the cert from Southport and you won't need the exact date, just the quarter in which it was registered. Hope this helps, Gwynne

Try using the register office where the death was registered, shouldn't be a problem then. Ros
