Hi Carol, Thanks again for trying to help me yesterday, I see you have already found the Petrockstowe Village website but have you looked at Genuki? On there are a few parish entries for marriages, unfortunately not the years you are looking for but there are a couple of Bissetts as follows: John Bissett - Yeoman - m - Eliza Clay - spinster Mar 17 1829 witnesses John Clay and Nathaniel Bissett John Bissett - Labourer - m - Ann Marsh - spinster Mar 29 1829 witnesses Richard Bissett and John Luxton There was one other a Henry Hissett which I think is a transcribers error it went as follows: Henry Hissett - m - Elizabeth Legg she was from Langtree Aug 5 1805 witnesses J Copp and Thomas Durrant. I know these do not help in your problem with birth certificates but they might give you a few more names to play around with when you get further back. Good luck. Gen

Thank you for the suggestions. Maz, how do you think hubby feels, being descended from a castrator. He was most indignant when I told him.

Hi Carol. We sorted out a similar tangle by going to the Exeter Record Office and working our way through the relevant church records. Don't know if that is practicable for you. Could be cheaper than the certificate route, or get someone local to do it for you. Best of luck. Keith

Marion, I thought that too. Incidentally, I found even more Bissetts on the Petrockstowe village website, which some kind person on here told me about.

I'm more puzzled that anyone would admit to an occupation of 'castrator', let alone let their wife be one too ... LOL Maz. XX

Carol Before ordering any certificates, have you done a Google search for Bissett to see if anyone has put any of them on a website, or they are listed in an earlier census? To find out who belongs to whom - start off with birth certs for John Bisset the servant, William H and Alice M the grandchildren and the Thomas Bisset mentioned at the end of your message. Sue
