not sure, on the 1901 he is down as Thomas Hammond,30yrs, Box maker, b Yorks Richmond. I have yet to find him in 1881. So unless his birth place is wrong. George

Thanks I'm still uncertain though because this Thomas you gave me: 1881 - 20yrs 1891 - 10yrs 1901 - 40yrs It is the same person in each census, In 1891 my Thomas should be 20 so unless there has been a mistranscription somewhere. May have to get the marriage cert to be on the safe side. George

That info is from the 1871 census and is your chap as he is 10yrs old then and that is his family.

Sorry I thought it was from the 1891, did'nt realise it was 1871. If it is him then he knocked 10yrs off his age in the 1901 census or they mistranscribed it as 30 when it should be 40. Also the Thomas you found is recorded in 1901 as being at home with his parents in Richmond while mine is recorded in Oldham with his wife & son so unless he was recorded twice. There must be a mistake somewhere So confusing George
