Can anyone help with a look-up for Alice Poole born 2.6.1869 in Sheffield. I cannot find her on Morman 1881 census. Other siblings in family would help also. Thank you.

Have you got the names of Alice's parents or siblings? Or is that a silly question as that is what you are hoping to find?

Thanks for that Jan, but I know they were living in Sheffield not Wales at the time. They seemed to have gone walkabout on night of census. Alice who was my grandmother, was 12 years old in 1881, born 1869 Sheffield.

Thank you Jan, Alice was born in Sheffield, I am not sure where Kelfield? is. Am I right in thinking that Kelfield on the census is the birthplace? I have just been onto Familyhistoryonline and she isn't showing up on that either!!! It is her parents I am after really and I thought she might lead me to them on census night. Can't find father or mother on that site. Brickwall again!! Thank you anyway. Margaret

Stan Report 12 Oct 2003 22:53

Kelfield is on the north-east bank of the River Ouse, on the road between Cawood and Riccall, north of Selby (NGR SE 595 384). Rather a long way, and quite inaccessible from Sheffield, but not impossible. Unfortunately the employer might guess the place of birth or age, or might even have been given wrong information. Stan
