I have my grandmothers birth certificate showing her born in 1892. Why then can I not find her or her parents on the 1901 census. Even if they were on holiday surely the name age and place of birth for a nine year old should get me something

I have been going round in circles with this. Her name was Elizabeth Jane Mason born 29th November 1891 in North Bishopwearmouth (registration district Sunderland) Her father was William Frederick (Shoemaker)Mother Mary Jane. I don't have the parents ages as I am waiting for their marriage certificate. I have tried different spellings as another relation whose name was Corns was listed as Cowns! If you can helpit will save my sanity.

Linda, Mary Jane Crofton is listed as being 16 on the 1881 census. Having said that, I still couldn't find her on the 1901. Crista

I saw Mary Jane on the 1881 and am fairly certain it is the right one but don't know for definite yet. I seem to remember there was a separate place to look for "strays" does that mean holidays?

Hi Linda I'm looking for them on the 1891 census, but there are a lot of Williams and Mary Janes. I found their marriage on FreeBMD (Sept 1887 - Sunderland). Do you know if your Grandmother had any older siblings. I could search for them.
