Thanks everyone for telling me what information I can find and also how to access the site and the best way to use it. Much appreciated. Kevin Phillips

It is only indexed by the first three letters (as are the fiches). So you might have to view (and pay for) several pages before you find the right one but you soon get a feel for which page to try. I was recently looking for a SWALES, I seem to remember that the index would show SUT-SWA 1 page, SWA 8 pages, SWA-SZZ 1 page or something like that. I always save every page that I view so that I can use again if I need it. I have no access to the BMD locally so it is quite expensive for me to travel and stay overnight somewhere with the BMD fiches. But always try FreeBMD first as it is quicker to search. Martin

1837online is a "pay per view" site of the BMD indexes 1837 to 1983. To use it, it is best that you are almost sure of the quarters you are looking for when searching for entries. Otherwise you can spend money getting nowhere (Been there, Done that, Got the T-shirt) You register, similar to other sites, and then purchase units in order to be able to view the relevant pages of the index. The price ranges from 10p per unit downwards, depending on how much you pay. Hope this helps Paul

Hi Kevin It is the site for the St. Catherine's registration records of births, marriages and deaths from 1837. It is a pay to view site. Click on 'Resource Centre' on the left of this page and it is the third one down. Good luck Yvonne
