Can anyone help me. Is it possible to find information regarding the adoption of a sibling. All I have at the moment is his name at birth and obviously his date of birth. I know he was put up for adoption but there the info ends. I really want to try to trace my brother - I'm in need of a big brother! Any hints or tips greatly appreciated. Pam C

Hi - After Adoption seems to be a helpful organisation, unfortunately they charge to do a search, but might provide free advice. Website - afteradoption.org.uk Also the Birth, Marriages and deaths section on Website -statistics.gov.uk has a section on Adoptions. Hope this helps, Sian

Hi Pam, There have been quite a few notes posted regarding adoptions. And also some great success stories. I found these for you and I am sure David and Elizabeth might be able to guide you in the right direction. Good luck. Regards Margaret Original Added by David Savage on 05/09/2003 00:42:31 Mesage for Elizabeth lewis or Adoption help Hi Elizabeth, I have just read your reply to Andrew. I would e mail you, but unable to as having registration problems. I am really glad that you found so many family members. I would be really grateful for any help you can give me.I only know my mothers name, as shown on my birth certificate. No fathers name. Adoption records destroyed in fire. Posted request on trying to find, but no luck. I don't know if she was or has married. don't know if that was her birth name, or married name. please help if you can. Added by Elizabeth Lewis on 05/09/2003 01:19:59 Hi David, Of course I will help you if I can, but I am in the middle of a night shift - I will email you directly in the morning if you like and we can take it from there. Regards, Liz STS Added by Elizabeth Lewis on 05/09/2003 02:26:43 Hi again, just a few thoughts to keep you going: Is your mum's address on your birth certificate? If so, (and I think it usually is), You can ring the local records department (I think I located my relevant one in the town library) and find out who was living at that address at the time of your birth from the electoral register. If you are lucky it will show parents and siblings if she was unmarried, or spouse if otherwise. Have you tried friendsreunited? (That's where I found my Dad!) 192 seems to be a good place to look once you have names and areas, there are often offers of 192 lookups on this board. Regards, Liz STS Added by Janet Levell on 05/09/2003 03:14:55 Hi Liz, Liz you have an excuse for being up this late - I havent. Hi David, Speaking from the other point of view so to speak, do keep trying my life has been so enriched since Liz found me. Janet

As you have his birth name and date of birth why don't you post on the trying to find board. (If you haven't already). If you e mail me with his info, plus where he was born, parents names etc I will have a look round if you want. Sally

Pam, Have you registered your details with the Adoption Contact Register? Also, its worth getting in touch with the social services branch in the area where he was born, as he may have already started trying to trace his birth family and this is where he will need to go to obtain his records.
