Thanks to all who have responded and the congrats. I am writing this to try keep it near the top for the latecomers as so many people tried to help. Stephen, why didn't you speak at the fair? I thought it was pretty good as it was small and not too crowded and I too spent quite a bit. Have decided to go to Cheltenham fair this w/end. Just a note to say I found the info searching through fiches at Bradford Library and then the archives. V. friendly people.

Just thought I would let you all know, especially the people who have tried to help me. I have found Riley Ferguson. My huge brickwall. My visit to Yorkshire proved very fruitful. As you know he was not on the 1881 census but I discovered 2 people of the same age as him and his brother Richard but their surnames were ROBAN. I at last was able to look at the census fiche for 1881 and found that the enumerator had made a right mess of that page and that LDS had ‘mis-translated’ the names. A long story which I won’t bore you with. (Email me if you really want to see and I will send the scanned image). A lesson to all here,do not take anything as correct till you have seen it yourself. I have now discovered a sister and possibly a brother. The other amazing thing, by chance I saw a cemetery in Doncaster and called in where I found a very helpful groundsman who even got the records out. I asked him if Selina Ferguson, Riley’s wife, was buried there. (Only because I knew her date of death.) Lo and behold she was!!! Then he said hang on there is someone else in the grave………. A Riley Ferguson. You can imagine my delight, date of death as well. I hope he enjoyed his free pints that night. There was a bottle of wine up for grabs for the first one to find him and I won it and I have now consumed it. :o) A very productive few days as I also found my gggggrandfather’s grave on my maternal side and loads more which I won’t bore you with. Thanks once again to all that tried and to those who have a brickwall I hope this helps to keep you going. John
