Telegrams at age 100

I've just written to the Private Secretary at Buckingham Palace about this very subject. According to the Royal web site the sending of these telegrams began in 1917 with George V. But I have a copy of the telegram sent to my gt gt gt grandmother in Feb 1910 on her 100th birthday - the telegram is signed Knollys - the then King, Edward VII's private secretary. So I've asked them to clarify the situation. According to the site the current policy is that DWP (Dept Work and Pensions) do notify the palace who is eligible for a telegram but a telegram doesn't get sent automatically - you have to request one. So it would only be the palace that would have a list of who actually was sent a telegram - and I can't imagine them sharing it...

Don't know if it's true nowadays, but originally the Penisons Department notified Buck House of an impending 100th birthday, and so I imagine they would have the records of all those who received a telegraph from the Queen. Jacqui

Virginia I don't know the answer to this one, but I do know that the telegram is sent by a request made direct to Buckingham Palace. If anyone holds records, I would imagine it would be them. Janet

Does anyone know if and where records may be kept on people receiving telegrams at the age of 100?
