Hi, Thanks for all the replies!! I always thought just local records were kept in the area, I will ring them and then pay them a visit I think! Thanks a lot. Sarah

Sarah and Helen. I went to my local centre to see what it was like and they were very helpful. I live in Coventry and am researching the Manchester and Salford areas. They have a few things available, mostly census records but said they can also order anything else I might need. I was advised to order for a month and then if I haven't finished looking through the record they could extend the loan period. I am going again tomorrow evening to start looking at what they have got. Melanie

Sarah - be warned! it's compulsive and hours just fly by - better set your wrist alarm clock - don't want little one trotting off home on his/her own! Also, my local centre has certain days and hours when its open to non-church members, so suggest you call them first. All the best Jacqui

I have been told that a new L.D.S. family centre will be open shortly (3/5 weeks) in Boston, lincolnshire, if all goes to plan.

Sarah I'm in just the same position as you. My youngest has just started school and I can now get to the local LDS centre in Shefield. I've never been before either but I'm hoping they will have the information I need.

My own local centre has information on everywhere - some on microfiche, some on films etc. They really are charming people who, whilst they won't search for you, will bend over backwards to point you in the right direction. Just tell them where you want to research e.g. census for 1891 Cornwall, and they will help you find it - then the rest is up to you. Give them a ring first to book yourself in, and I believe they will give you a little lecture on what the LDS Church is about, how they came about finding the records ect. and they will also tell you what they have there, and what can be ordered for you. All the best Jacqui

Just read the mail saying there was an LDS Family Centre in Barrow and did a search and was amazed to find theres one in my town. Does anyone know if they just hold local information, as my family didn't originate from this area or any advice from anyone whose visited would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sarah
